Elmer’s Fund
“Elmer’s Fund” is an important initiative that contributes to the mission of our organization. It has grown from a specific challenge Wild Hearts encountered with Elmer, the ninth pet we sponsored and the second to require expensive diagnostic testing.
Elmer was brought to an animal shelter at nine weeks of age with suspected hydrocephalus. Wild Hearts sponsored a neurology consult and MRI. It was found that his condition was extremely rare. Unfortunately, less than 24 hours after Elmer's MRI, he declined rapidly and passed away with a veterinary bill totaling nearly $2,500.
We see a number of neurologic conditions requiring MRI + CT scans but unfortunately diagnostics and imaging are expensive. In his honor, we put together Elmer’s Fund, a special funding project established to assist pets in need of advanced diagnostics and examination by veterinary specialists. Having this fund allows us to assist pets in need of life-changing but costly diagnostic testing.
Elmer.
